Sunday!
Gurlesque’s ever evolving door policy has entered a new phase: “for women and trannies”. Huzzah! This is good news indeed, and I am thoughtful about the future. Let’s just set aside for a moment an inclination of mine not to identify as either, although perhaps I could identify with either category. Splitting hairs much?

The other good news is that i’m performing there! Woot. A spot on Sydney’s gayest stage.

When I was in Brisbane at The American Bookstore, looking for places to distro Self Organising Men, I got a bit miffed at how they organised their queer section. There was a shelf for double masculine symbol fiction, a shelf for double masculine symbol non-fiction, a shelf for double feminine symbol fiction, a shelf for double feminine symbol non-fiction, and a shelf right down the bottom for generally anything that wasn’t exclusively double masculine symbol or double feminine symbol. Where a smattering of queer books were. Actually, they were the best ones. All the double… oh for heavens sake! You wouldn’t read about it! Anyway, all the gay and lesbian stuff was all tacky lesso karma sutra and moody gay coffee table books.

I suspect the queer regulars often made a beeline for the awkward queer shelf, but all the coy double action symbol - oh- they may have even written “boys and girls” on the chalkboard above the bookcase - as I was saying, all this beating around the bush just seemed a little silly to me.

Hmm, I clearly needed to get that off my chest.
